We have had so much fun this month thinking about and preparing for Christmas! Perhaps my favorite thing that we have worked so hard on has been our Transforming Gingerbread house! Rainy day are best kept for making and creating! Our gingerbread house was created over a couple of days where we worked on patterns and cutting. We decorated it with lights and snowflakes. We drew and glued. We created something special!
Each week, our Gingerbread house had a different purpose. The first week, it was the home for the little Gingerbread Boy, and Girl, and Baby. We enjoyed reading and comparing the different Gingerbread stories.
The Second week, we turned our house into a Bake Shop. We make cookies out of playdoh. We graphed and measured cookies. We even cooked our favorite cookies in the kitchen.
Finally we made a workshop for gift wrapping and thinking of others! We had to problem solve how much wrapping paper and ribbon we might need! So much joy comes from just a box!
Our little preschool has so much to be thankful for! We have grown! Boy, have we grown. When I think back to the beginning of our school year to the dinner that we had welcoming our school friends to Olivet, my heart was overwhelmed with joy. As I am catching up on pictures, I came across one from our Thankful program. Each November, we invite families to come in for a small music program. It is our intent to share some of the things that we are learning with our families. This year’s program I could really fee how much we have grown! Thanks to the families that share your children with us! They bless us each day! And a big Thanks to Ms. Betsy!
This is my most favorite time of the year! Apples, Pumpkins, Leaves and Halloween!! Our class has spent our mornings learning about apples! We’ve painted with apples. We’ve patterned with apples. We’ve tasted apples. We’ve even made apples to use for counting.
Our friends love to build together! They love to create things with Magna tiles and Blocks!
We’ve also been learning little about rhyming words through little poems about acorns and apples. We love to learn through play! We love to act out EVERYTHING!
Thank you to Chiles Orchard for a fun trip to the Pumpkin Patch! Our little class had so much fun tasting and exploring the gifts of Fall!
Happy Halloween!!! From your friends at Olivet!
Welcome Friends to a New Year at Olivet Preschool
As the summer days comes to a close, it is time to think about learning. As we enter the 2016-2017 school year we have doubled in size! Our little hallways are filled with laughter and smiles. We welcome 2 new teachers and a big group of 3 year olds and new 4 year olds to our sweet little school. We are off to a great start learning about our school and our friends.
Our 4 year old Pre K class has been learning about each other and what it means to be part of our “Den.” We started our learn off embracing the last days of summer with a camping theme. The kiddos have explored and created in our tent. We’ve met around the campfire and we’ve made s’mores!
We are learning about working together and playing together. In Pre K, we have very important social skills to learn from each other…. Sharing, caring, and exploring with one another.
This week we have been sharing pictures of our families with each other. We have learning that families include our pets. Oh what fun we’ve had taking and learning about pets. We created a Pet shop and all week long, the kiddos have been buying pets, grooming pets, making homes for pets, and even entering the pets into a pet show! These kids have completely embraced our pet shop and I have loved seeing their minds work…
We also started our specials this week. We met our school friends that teach Bible, Art, Music and Guidance. Each area of specials are taught with young children in mind. We are off to a great start this year!
We are so loving this weather that we’ve taken things outside! We are creating Fairy Gardens and Dinosaur Environments for our playground!
We have been learning about Caterpillars and Butterflies! Again this year, we discovered what happens to Caterpillars throughout their lifecycle. We loved watching and learning how a caterpillar eats and prepares for its transformation. We patiently waited for the caterpillars to rest in their cocoon. We eagerly awaited their grand entrance as butterflies! Would a wonderful learning opportunity to experience this change as a class. We drew wonderful pictures and we wrote about our butterfly families! Then finally we set them free! Oh what a day!
Rainbows in March!
We have been exploring and creating Rainbows! In Art, we have been learning about shapes and how to draw shapes. We also have be learning about listening to the directions step by step, through teacher directed art projects.
We colored and counted the colors for our rainbows.
We also experimented with water absorption and how it can travel from one place to another!
Will he or won’t he? That is the question we considered this month! We loved learning about how animals wake up like the Groundhog. We used technology to learn what happened to Mr. Phil when he woke from his winter sleep! We loved using the light to create shadows as we pretended to be Mr. Groundhog!
We created the Olivet Postoffice in our Classroom! We learned new vocabulary as we built our play and our art table around making Valentines for our loved ones and each other!
We’ve also put on a play called “The Queen of Hearts.” We took turns being the Queen, the King, and the Knave. We learned about being actors and in the audience. It was a wonderful opportunity to play with Rhyming too!
We are looking forward to our visit to the Paramount Theater this week as we go to see “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.”
We have had such a great start to the New Year! We have been talking and creating all things snowy!
We’ve been learning about animals and what they do during the cold winter.
We played and mixed colors. Then we turned they into ice for ice building! We loved seeing what happens when the ice melts!
While the weather has been snowy and cold, we have loved spending time indoors creating shape pictures and going on shape hunts!
We wanted to thank the Crozet Library for having us visit this month! We so enjoyed our time with Ms. Rhonda as she shared books and Rhymes with us! We danced and rhymed together. We even crawled into a bear cave! Our time at the library we learned about how to take care of books and all the things that the library has to offer. The Kiddos had an opportunity to learn in such a playful way! We also enjoyed the sunshine and fresh air on the playground! What a great trip to the library!
